A Day in the Life of a Business Developer

Over the past few weeks, we took you beyond the screen and into what a typical Day in the Life looks like for Bloom’s team members. We hope this provided some insight into what it’s like to work at Bloom, what we do outside of Bloom, and the benefits of having a distributed team.

Anne Ching has been Bloom’s Head of Partnerships since April 2018, and she has brought with her a wealth of experience in negotiating with a range of organizations and financial institutions. She leads our business development team and, as you will see below, is frequently on the phone or in meetings. Let’s find out what a typical day in the life of Anne is like!

What does a Business Development Professional do?

The primary responsibility of a person in a business development role is to identify and develop new opportunities with prospective customers and channels for the sales team.

This is a traditional role being incorporated in to blockchain-based companies. How is your role different with Bloom compared to past engagements?

My current business development role isn’t really different from other companies. However, what makes it more interesting at Bloom is that almost everyone in the financial sector is a potential partner or customer. There is tremendous growth potential since most players have yet to conceive how our blockchain identity solution will transform the digital economy.

What's your favourite part of your work?

My favorite part of the job is talking to prospective clients and partners to learn about the problems and challenges they face. I love relationship-building.

Walk us through a day in the life of Anne!

My typical day is consumed by back-to-back phone calls and in-person meetings. Most of my calls consist of pitching deals, reviewing contracts and negotiating deal terms. I also spend a lot of time in the evenings reading and keeping up with financial markets.

What is the Bloom business development team like?

We are a small team of three. So everyone has to pitch in and do a little of everything even if it’s not in their wheelhouse. There’s not a lot of bureaucracy, which I love about small teams.

What advice do you have for other Business Development Professionals?

The most important advice is to remain flexible and really listen carefully to what your customers are telling you.

About Bloom

Bloom is a blockchain solution for identity security and cross-border credit scoring, restoring ownership and control of identity information and financial data back to consumers. By decentralizing the way that information is shared between untrusted parties, the system reduces the risk of identity theft and minimizes costs associated with customer on-boarding, compliance and fraud prevention.
